INTRODUCTION TO THE HEADQUARTERS
With the foundation of the German Limes Commission in 2003, it was agreed that the official headquarters would be located at the Roman fort of Saalburg in Hesse. Initially, the office was housed in the archive building of the Saalburg Museum. In 2014, the office moved to its current location in the newly renovated guardhouse in front of the porta principalis dextra of the Roman fort. The half-timbered ensemble is supposed to represent a once Roman civilian settlement as it was romanticised in the Wilhelmine Period. Currently, four employees work at the main office.
